Calgary water & scale

Ice is food

  • Health inspectors treat it that way
  • Cold, damp, dark: slime and mould love it
  • Pink or black slime: needs a full clean and sanitize

How we diagnose

  • Refrigeration side: condenser, fans, compressor, refrigerant
  • Water side: scale, filter, inlet valve, pump

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my ice machine making less ice than it used to?

Common causes are scale build-up, a dirty condenser, a clogged water filter or a hot location. Low production can also point to a refrigeration or water valve problem. We'll find the actual cause.

How often should an ice machine be cleaned?

Follow the manufacturer's schedule as a minimum. Many machines need cleaning and sanitizing every few months, and more often in busy kitchens, warm locations or with hard water.

Why does my ice taste or smell bad?

Usually slime or mould in the water system or bin, an overdue water filter, or the machine picking up odours from nearby food. A full clean and sanitize normally fixes it.

My ice machine is leaking. What should I do?

Turn off the water supply to the machine if you can do so safely, and call 403-970-6988. Common causes are a blocked drain, a cracked water line or a failing water valve.
